Religious Life of the School

Dear Families,
In Term 1 St Mary's school particpates in Project Compassion. This is a Catholic Mission doing incredible work to help those in vulnerable communities around the world. This year, Project Compassion is supporting people in Africa, Asia and the Pacific who have to walk long distances to collect clean water everyday. By supporting students, even with a small amount such as 50c, it encourages them to create lasting change and empower people in poverty. Teachers will bring students who have sponsorship forms to the oval at some stage on March 5th (Ash Wednesday) to complete laps of the oval. Money will be collected by teachers and the school office. Sponsorship forms were sent home last week. Contact me at swindridge@smbtsv.catholic.edu.au if you have any questions.
God’s blessings,
Mrs Suzette Windridge
Assistant Principal Religious Education (APRE and Chaplain)
Our first school Mass was a wonderful experience, with students processing to the Church from the school to recognise the Year of Hope. We commissioned our Mini Vinnies leaders, and our School Captains read their pledge to be compassionate and responsible leaders. Thank you to Mrs Menzies and Miss A, as well as our Year 5 and 6 students for leading us in this special Mass.

Our First Nation Families are welcome to join us here at St Mary's for a meet and greet breakfast on Friday the 28th at 7:30am. Come along and enjoy a yummy meal and meet your child's teacher. Details attached.

Breakfast Club is back and will run every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00 am. This is a great opportunity for students who may be in a rush or need a hearty start to the day!

Gardening Club will also be returning, open to students in Grades 4-6 every Thursday. It’s a wonderful way to connect with nature, learn about sustainability, and make our school grounds even more beautiful.

February 22nd at 9.30 am will be our school Clean Up Australia morning. We are meeting at the sound shell/front beach and will provide students with gloves and bags. Please ensure they are wearing safe shoes and a hat, and have drinking water. We hope you can attend with your child to help beautify our front beach!

Learning and Teaching

NAPLAN is quickly approaching for our students in Years 3 and 5. It will be held over weeks 7-8 of this term.
Our teachers have been busy preparing for NAPLAN with our students so that they are set up for success for the actual tests. We are also doing some more practice tests leading up to NAPLAN.
Please see below the timetable for NAPLAN and a Parent Information Session that is available.
Please remember to talk positively about NAPLAN to your children and remind them that all that they need to do is have a go and try their best!
Kind regards,
Krystal Land
Assistant Principal Pedagogy and Learning.
